SOME RECENT SIGHTINGS SUBMITTED TO THE CLUB
NOVEMBER: Wild Swans and Geese, unusual gulls and passerines
James Lough and Stewart & Alison McCormick reported on the traditional gathering of over 100 Whoopers between Cornhill and Wark in the second half of the month, with Ian and Keith Davison still reporting over 1100 Pale-bellied Brents at Fenham Flats on 10th and Stewart McCormick watching 650 Pink-footed Geese fly in to field near Doddington on 25th.
Two unusual gulls were reported, a Little Gull at Stag Rocks on the 1st by John Lumby, and another sighting of the Bonaparte's Gull at Stag Rocks on the NNBC Field Visit on 16th. (first reported at the end of last month) by Ian and Keith Davison.
Amongst the passerines, Snow Buntings were reported in high numbers (flocks of 30-40) by several members along the coast on or around the 9th of the month, but the most unusual visitor in November was a Lesser Grey Shrike near Links House, High Newton from 16th-23rd.
